It's been some time since I wrote personal or reflective posts. I don't write them as much these days because I'm focused on turning my blog into a profitable business and I keep coming across advice that says no one is interested in reading about my personal life; instead, I should focus on how I can offer others help.

Whilst I endeavor to provide practical advice to my listeners, occasionally it's beneficial to contemplate and express one's own opinions and personal encounters. I aim to incorporate my own stories into my guidance and recommendations.

In the year 2022, there has been a significant rise in travel due to the revenge travel trend, and for me, it's my first trip since 2019. With more people getting vaccinated, the decrease in COVID cases, and the world opening up, everyone is excited to start exploring again. When COVID cases were at their peak in 2020, the prospect of travel looked bleak, but now I am appreciative of the unforgettable experiences I had in 2022. While money can always be regained, the memories of these travels will stay with me for a lifetime.

Without any more delay, here are my most memorable travel experiences, numbered from one to five.

The most notable experiences in travel for the year 2022.

Traveling alone in Copenhagen.

In the previous month, I traveled extensively throughout Copenhagen and became completely enamored with the city. I admired how it was lively and bustling, yet not as hyped up as other major European cities like Paris. The city was pedestrian and eco-friendly, with a convenient Metro system. The architecture, particularly in Nyhavn, was quaint and appealing. What I appreciated the most was how safe and hygienic the city was. The combination of historic squares and enchanting elements with modern amenities made it an exceptionally unique destination.

I had a wonderful time observing the sights such as Nyhavn and the Little Mermaid, sampling smørrebrød, and participating in the Christmas Market at Højbro Plads. Additionally, I had the opportunity to travel to Lund and Malmö in Sweden, marking another country off my list.

I had to go alone as Cecilio couldn't get time off from work due to the blackout months in February, May, and November when he works for a news station. Moreover, it was my delayed birthday gift to myself.

The cost of the ticket was approximately $600, but I was able to gather mileage using my United Explorer credit card and then use it to book a flight with Scandinavian Airlines, since they are affiliated with United as a Star Alliance partner. I used United's website to make the reservation and only had to pay $45 out of my pocket, which was how I was able to afford the trip.

A journey to Hawaii made by two people in a romantic relationship.

I have visited Hawaii five times before, and this was my second visit to the island of Oahu. It was Cecilio's first time on the island. We had a great experience overall, but we did encounter some problems. During our first night, we went swimming at Waikiki Beach. While Cecilio was taking pictures of me with my waterproof phone, his leg suddenly cramped up and he accidentally dropped my phone in the water. Thankfully, someone was able to retrieve my phone. However, Cecilio's leg was still cramping for about 10 minutes, so we had to return to the shore. Fortunately, several people came to our aid.

For the succeeding days, Cecilio had a slightly painful leg, however, we were still able to take a swim, albeit with him being careful for the duration of our journey. I don't hold it against him.

Despite having a negative encounter with the tour company, we were able to explore North Shore, indulge in a chocolate tasting tour at Manoa Chocolate Factory, visit Pearl Harbor to show our respects, and oh, did I forget to mention we swam some more?

Despite a few minor mistakes, we had an amazing experience and are eager to return in the future. Perhaps our next destination will be Maui.

The city of Kansas is hosting the Women in Travel Summit (WITS) for women who are involved in the travel industry.

In May, I went to my first travel blogging conference, the Women in Travel Summit (WITS), held in Kansas City. While I had a good time, there were moments when I felt a bit lonely and awkward. However, I realize now that this was probably due to my own insecurities and my tendency to worry about what others think. I am trying to be more authentic and true to myself since high school is long behind us. Overall, attending WITS was an amazing experience.

earned how to improve as a travel creator, how to be a more responsible traveler, and met tourism boards and travel brands. I also had the opportunity to network and make connections with like-minded women, attend dinner and drinks events, and go on fun day tours with the generosity of the tourism boards (a special shoutout to Visit Kansas City, Visit Overland Park, and Visit Kansas City Kansas!).

I did a lot of exploration around Kansas City. I tried out the tasty BBQ, visited multiple coffee shops (which are phenomenal in KC!), took pictures of myself at Union Station, and wandered around the Downtown and Crossroads Arts District (which is my most preferred area).

Our journey to Seattle to celebrate our anniversary marks our first air travel experience since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cecilio and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary in Seattle, where we stayed for four nights and had the opportunity to explore famous sites such as Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Chihuly's Glass Art Garden, the Museum of Pop Culture, the original Starbucks, and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery.

I was overjoyed when we left the airport and entered Downtown because for two and a half years, I couldn't fly.

I have an affection for the Pacific Northwest and I am interested in going back to explore Bainbridge Island or Leavenworth on a day trip.

Speaking of…

A one-day excursion to Portland from Seattle.

We embarked on a one-day excursion from Seattle to Portland, which proved to be a longer journey than anticipated - roughly three hours in total. I held conflicting opinions about Portland, but my opinion gradually shifted. It's undoubtedly a trendy and edgy city, with a distinctive quirkiness. During our eight-hour visit, we managed to accomplish a reasonable amount, including trying out one of the city's celebrated food carts, purchasing a box of Voodoo Donuts, browsing Powell's Books and the Japanese Garden, and concluding the day with a romantic dinner at Café Nell.

I must have had a great experience in Portland because we are going back in March to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. I am looking forward to exploring more of the city's food carts and donut shops, revisiting Café Nell, and admiring the waterfalls.

Travels that are expected to take place in the year 2023.

  • Solvang, CA:Cecilio gave me a Christmas present of a two-night stay in Solvang, CA, which coincidentally falls on his upcoming birthday next month. I'm really looking forward to it because Solvang has a Danish feel and reminds me of Copenhagen. I'm especially excited about trying the smørrebrød in some of the local restaurants. Additionally, we're planning to take a day trip to Santa Barbara since it's close by.

  • Portland: As I stated earlier, we are revisiting for the celebration of our 6th marriage anniversary. Our flight and accommodation have already been arranged. At this point, I am only required to search for some guided excursions to Multnomah Falls.

  • Costa Rica: I got tickets to Costa Rica as a present for Cecilio during Christmas, and we plan on going there in April. The place looks amazing based on the things I've heard and seen, and I'm excited to explore the beaches, jungles, and see the sloths. I also want to try zip-lining, but Cecilio is not interested. Additionally, I'm hoping to persuade him into stopping over in Mexico City on our way back home, even though I doubt he'll agree to it. But it's worth a try.

Our current plan is in place, but I am also considering other future trips. My two closest friends and I have been discussing visiting Iceland for years and we are thinking of going in November. While it's not confirmed yet, I am hopeful it will happen. If not, my partner Cecilio and I are considering either a European Christmas Market trip or a trip to Japan later in the year. This is because we want to save up the money we plan to spend in Costa Rica.

In the meantime, I am considering taking a couple of trips on my own, perhaps even trying out a solo cruise. Additionally, I plan to attend the TBEX Conference in Eau Claire, WI. I hope to have enough paid time off for this, as I am also interested in going on a familiarization trip.

The term selected as the most significant word of the year 2023 is "bold."

In 2023, I aim to cultivate boldness and fearlessness, despite my inherently meek and cautious nature. While there are things I hope to achieve, I often hesitate due to my fear of rejection - despite knowing it's a common experience. However, I am determined to not let this fear hinder me from trying. Though it may be a challenge, I understand that nothing worthwhile comes without effort. I have faith that with hard work, I can make something great out of my current situation.

I would be interested in providing my graphic design expertise to organizations such as tourism boards, travel brands, and other creative groups. If you are interested, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I took a daring step by embarking on my first independent journey to Copenhagen. If I had done this earlier, I would have had no regrets. That experience helped me appreciate my strength and competence despite being protected for most of my life and being a slow starter in all areas, including travel.

We are very grateful for the affection and encouragement you have shown us!

I feel grateful to all those who read my blogs and to the community of travelers. I am excited to discover what awaits us in the year 2023.

I wish you all a fantastic year and even more great times ahead!

I will meet you in the distance, where the land and sky meet.
